Disney will release the first season of the Star Wars series The Acolyte on its streaming platform next year. This spin-off is about the High Republic and the emerging dark side. The series does not yet have a concrete release date, apart from the year 2024.

Lucasfilm confirms The Acolyte’s release year at an event in London, writes The Verge, among others. The Acolyte was officially announced in 2020, but it was not yet known when the live action series would appear. The series is coming to Disney+, just like previous live action series in the Star Wars franchise such as The Mandalorian and Andor.

The Acolyte is set near the end of the High Republic, some hundred years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I. The Acolyte is set in a world of “shadowy secrets and emerging dark forces.” Amandla Stenberg plays a leading role and The Matrix actress Carrie-Anne Moss and Lee Jung-jae from Squid Game also play a role in the series.
