Square Enix has indicated in an interview that it will stop making Go games for mobile devices. The games Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go and Deus Ex Go were played by too few people because of their purchase price, and therefore the fact that they are not free.

In an interview with PCGamesInsider, CEO Patrick Naud says it’s difficult to make premium games on mobile devices, PocketGamer reports. He points to the increasing number of high-quality free games as a reason for this, which means that fewer and fewer people are willing to try games that they have to pay for.

The studio indicates that their three Go games are only played by a small part of the gamers due to the purchase price. According to Naud, players have become accustomed to paying for mobile games only when they are convinced that it is worth the money. According to him, even a purchase price of 5 dollars is already too much.

Square Enix isn’t saying goodbye to making games for mobile devices entirely, though. Naud wants his studio to innovate to come up with new concepts for mobile games. According to him, the aim is still to make high-quality mobile games, but they will probably be free.
