Square Enix satisfied with Final Fantasy XVI sales, despite disappointing profits
The sales figures of Final Fantasy XVI meet expectations. Still, developer Square Enix hopes for higher sales figures in the future, because the profit of the past quarter was disappointing, CEO Takashi Kiryu is said to have said.
although the developer’s net turnover has increased by 14.4 percent compared to the same period last year, profits have fallen by 79 percent. This would be due to the ‘strong competition in the mobile market’ and the high production costs of major games such as FF XVI and the Pixel Remaster series, which was released this spring, writes Bloomberg.
Because the PS5 is more available than before, sales figures for FF XVI may increase in the near future. Furthermore, sales during the release week went well, Square Enix said in a statement to IGN last month. In less than a week, the game has sold more than 3 million copies.
Final Fantasy XVI is currently only available for the PS5. It is not yet known when the game will be released for PC.
Update, 6:47 PM: An earlier version of the article stated that Square Enix found the sales figures of FF XVI to be disappointing. This was based on a wrong translation. The article has therefore been amended.
