Square Enix has established a new development studio in Japan called Luminous Productions. The new studio will be led by Hajime Tabata, who oversaw the production of Final Fantasy 15.

In addition to Tabata, a significant portion of the team that worked on Final Fantasy 15 will be joining Luminous Productions. Square Enix reports in a press release that the new Tokyo studio will primarily develop high-quality games and create new entertainment experiences around games for an international audience.

It is still unclear what kind of projects these are; information on this will be published in the course of this year. Luminous Productions’ website states that the studio is looking for new talent. The company has many vacancies for all kinds of positions such as different types of animators, programmers, designers and managers. Not much can be deduced from the multitude of vacancies, but the Luminous Engine is mentioned, for example, which will be used as an engine for the development of ‘high-quality AAA games’.

Polygon reports that he spoke with Tabata at Games last year, stating that he would like to develop a completely new game as his next project, which will be based on everything learned during the development of Final Fantasy 15.
