Spotify is testing Android app to listen to music stations for free

Swedish Spotify has released an Android app called Stations, which seems to be only available in Australia for now. The description states that it is an experiment. The app allows listening to music stations for free.

From the description in the Play Store, it can also be concluded that users can use the app to ‘listen to music stations immediately’ and that there is no search function. For example, the music stations in the images bear the names Folk, Indie, Roadtrip and Classic Pop, which suggests that these are playlists with songs that fit into those genres. A review of the app says there’s no way to switch songs, and the app’s interface seems to support that conclusion. Users can indicate that they like a certain song.

It is unclear whether there will also be advertisements between songs, such as with the free version of Spotify. The description also states that the app keeps track of what users like and can use that to create personalized music stations. The company tells Variety it is “constantly testing new features,” but a spokesperson declined to comment.
