Spotify has released a version of the music app for the Xbox One in the Microsoft Store, but it is not yet possible to actually download the app. It is not yet known when the app will be available.

The Spotify app for Xbox One makes it possible to listen to music while playing a game. Playlists, albums and individual songs can be browsed via the Xbox controllers. During a game, a new song can also be played via the app on a smartphone or tablet, eliminating the need to use the Xbox controller and exit the game.

It was previously announced that Spotify is developing an app for the Xbox One. A screenshot showed that Xbox community chief Larry Hryb is testing the app. The website that published the image has learned from multiple sources that Spotify is indeed coming with an Xbox app in the short term.

The release of Spotify for the Xbox One would follow the Windows 10 app of the music service, which appeared in the Windows Store at the end of June. That app was not about software based on the Universal Windows Platform, which can also run on the Xbox One. Spotify has been available on PlayStation 3 and 4 for over two years now, replacing Sony’s former Music Unlimited service.
