Speedrun marathon for charity Summer Games Done Quick starts

Speedrunning marathon Summer Games Done Quick has started. The marathon, which lasts a week, is intended to raise money for charity. The winter edition raised $2.39 million in January, which is about 2.1 million euros.

Users can watch all speedruns live via Summer Games Done Quick’s Twitch channel, which features sessions with games such as Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and Half Life. There is also a YouTube channel where users who missed a speedrun can watch the run again. The full schedule can be found on the Summer Games Done Quick site.

Players kicked off the event last night with a speedrun of Spyro Reignited Trilogy: Spyro the Dragon and it ends with a play session of Chrono Trigger on Sunday. The event raises money for Doctors Without Borders. In previous editions, players raised $2.39, 1.8 and 1.4 million.

January saw the Awesome Games Done Quick speedrun event, the winter edition of Games Done Quick. The very first version of the event took place in January 2010, followed by a second edition in 2011. In the summer of that year, Summer Games Done Quick was added for the first time.
