‘Sony silenced earlier hack in February’

Sony was recently hacked in which a lot of personal and company data was stolen, but according to rumors, the company was also hacked in February. Then Sony would have kept the hack under wraps.

Information about the hack in February came out via Gawker, who got hold of internal emails from Sony. In it, Courtney Schaberg, who works at Sony as vice president of the legal compliance department, says hackers have penetrated the servers and may have uploaded malware. Schaberg claims that the hackers penetrated an internal system that Sony uses to exchange files within the company.

The emails show that the hackers have infiltrated Sony’s Brazilian branch. Because there is no reporting obligation for these types of cases, Schaberg decided to keep the hack quiet, according to the emails Gawker has.

As with the recent hack at the end of November, where burglars from the hacker collective GOP broke into Sony and obtained personal and company data, it seems that such data had already been stolen in February. Although there are major similarities between the hacks in February and November, it is still unclear whether they are the same perpetrators.

Several files captured in the most recent hack have since been distributed on the Internet. This includes unreleased films and employee salary data. North Korea is rumored to be involved in the hack, but there are doubts about it.
