Sony has announced the successor to the FMP-X1 4k Ultra HD Media Player. The FMP-X10 can download or stream the latest 4k content. Furthermore, the media player has 1TB of internal storage and is compatible with all Sony 4k televisions.

Sony’s new media player has a look similar to the PlayStation 4. They talk about the same ‘stacked’ design, but with a flat front and glossy finish. Unlike its predecessor, the FMP-X10 does not have two, but 1TB of internal storage. The USB 3.0 connection on the front has also been omitted, as has the SD card reader. There is a USB 2.0 port on the back. Furthermore, the FMP-X10 has built-in Wi-Fi and offers support for the Triluminos color technology. According to the manufacturer, this technology should provide natural and deeper colors.

Users will be able to download 4k movies through Sony’s Video Unlimited service, and some 4k titles will be streamed through Netflix. How much the FMP-X10 will cost has not yet been announced. According to Sony’s blog, the media player will be available this summer.

Another update in Sony’s 4k product line is that users from Canada and the US can play PlayStation 3 games on their 4k televisions using Playstation Now and a Dualshock 3 controller. Sony previously announced that PlayStation Now will only be available in Europe at the beginning of 2015, while the gaming service was still in a test phase in the US.
