Sony launches paid open beta of PlayStation Now in Benelux

All PlayStation 4 owners can participate in the open beta test of the PlayStation Now starting Tuesday. With this service, PS3 games can be streamed to the new console. There are two hundred games available and the service costs 16.99 euros per month.

Users can try out the game streaming service seven bears for free, but then have to pay the monthly fee of 16.99 euros. That also applies during the open beta. During the open beta phase, the range of games may change from time to time, Sony says. The company also promises to listen to user feedback and to “remain flexible” with regard to the content and price of the service. An internet connection with a speed of at least 5Mbit/s is required to stream the games.

PlayStation Now now offers access to ‘more than’ two hundred PlayStation 3 games in the Benelux. These are games in different genres. The list includes Borderlands, BioShock Infinite, The Last of Us, Batman Arkham City, Ratchet and Clanck: A Crack in Time, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Uncharted 1 to 3, XCOM and many more. In the US, the PlayStation Now range consists of about four hundred games.

Sony also announced a Blu-ray player early this year that will have PlayStation Now support, and Samsung has built support into its 2016 line of SUHD televisions. It is not yet known whether and when it will be possible in the Benelux to play PS games on a Blu-ray player or Samsung TV.

Previously, a closed beta was performed, in which the game offer was limited to about twenty games. The Now app already appeared in the PlayStation store on Friday, but the service was not yet working for all users. It was also not clear that it was still an open beta test. It is not yet clear when the Now service will leave the beta stage.
