Sony is testing the ability to stream PS5 titles to PS5 consoles via the cloud. This feature should eventually become available to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. This no longer requires users to download the games to their console first.

The opportunity applies to ‘supported’ PS5 games playable as part of the PS Plus subscription, says Sony in its PlayStation Blog. This also includes the ‘Game Trials’, games that can only be played for a limited time. In addition, it should also be possible to play ‘certain’ games that users have purchased digitally in this way via the cloud. Sony does not mention when this option will become available. The company states that it is now only in ‘the early stages’ and will provide more information later.

Currently, it is already possible to stream selected PS4 games to the PS5 console via the cloud, including the entire available catalog of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games. These all only concern games that are available as part of the PS Plus subscription.

It is already possible to stream games from the PS5 to phones and PCs via Remote Play. There will also be a special handheld that can stream PS5 games via a WiFi connection in this way. However, these games still have to be downloaded to the user’s PS5 console.
