Sony has unveiled the glass speaker LSPX-S3, the successor to the more than two-year-old LSPX-S2. The new speaker has a larger 46mm woofer and has a suggested retail price that is 250 euros lower than with the previous model. Two LSPX-S3 models can also be linked.

When pairing two LSPX-S3 speakers, users can have sound played back in stereo, with one speaker outputting the left channel and the other the right channel. As with the predecessor, Sony speaks of a speaker with Advanced Vertical Driver technology.

This means that the tube serves as a tweeter and the speaker makes it vibrate with three drivers. For example, the speaker must be able to reproduce room-filling sound. That tube is made of the plastic polymethyl methacrylate, also known as Perspex and Plexiglas. Inside the tube is a light for a candlelight effect.

In addition to the tweeter, the speaker has a 46mm speaker, 11mm larger than the LSPX-S2. For bass there is a passive radiator. In order to be able to make calls via the loudspeaker, there is a microphone. It is a portable bluetooth speaker; like its predecessor, the LSPX-S3 has a battery life of eight hours. Charging is via USB Type-C. The speaker also supports bluetooth 5.0 and ldac.

The Sony LSPX-S3 measures 94x289mm and weighs 1.1kg. The speaker will be for sale in the Benelux from August for 350 euros.
