Software update: XviD 0.9.0

The ISO MPEG-4 compliant open-source video codec XviD has recently arrived at version 0.9.0† According to the programmers, this is the best MPEG-4 video codec currently available. We found the following description in the release notes:

We are proud to announce immediate availability of XviD’s first public libxvidcore release. This 0.9.0 version includes support for all these features:

  • I, P Frame encoding.
  • PMVFast and EPZS with diamond and square pattern motion estimation.
  • inter4v mode.
  • full pixel and half pixel precision.
  • both MPEG4 and H263 quantizations.
  • custom quant matrices.
  • Adaptive quantization / Luminance masking.
