Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows api that makes it possible to run DOS and Windows programs on systems such as Linux, Freebsd and Mac OS X. the online database listing applications that work under Wine already contains 11,649 titles at the time of writing. The developers have released version 1.1.7 in the development branch with the following list of changes:

What’s new in this release:

• Improved device management for DOS drives.
• Many Richedit fixes.
• Various installer fixes, particularly for IE 7.
• First steps of Direct3D 10 implementation.
