Software Update: Winamp 5.05

Nullsoft has, in response to a security bug released a new version of the media player in Winamp. The update has version number 5.05 and is available in three different versions to download† In addition to the security fix, the video part of Winamp has also been tinkered with and the Jump to File Extrasoftware upgraded to version 0.96c. The 5.05 release changelog looks like this:

  • Added prompt when loading a skin for the first time[break]Winamp was originally developed to play wav, voc and mp3 files in Windows. Gradually, the program was expanded with plugins and support for even more audio formats. From the 2.x branch, Winamp switched from shareware to freeware license and the first rumors about Winamp 3 started doing the rounds. During the development of the 3-series it was announced that a new Winamp would also be worked on. It was christened as Winamp 5, which got the plugin support from Winamp 2 and the skin engine from Winamp 3. The long-awaited final of Winamp 5 was released in December 2003 after many release candidates and beta versions were released.
