VueScan can be used as a replacement for the twain driver supplied with the scanner. After all, he is not always able to get the most out of it. VueScan is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux and does not necessarily need to be installed to do its job. The program has support for more than 1200 scanners and can with the raw files of more than 300 digital cameras level crossing. The program can also perform some operations such as crop, sharpen, grain reduction, and adjust color balance.
