Software update: Vanish 0.1

Spread the love

Vanish is being developed by four employees of the Computer Science and Engineering department at the University of Washington. The program is released as a Firefox add-on under the Academic License conditions and focuses on sending encrypted messages via web services such as Hotmail, Gmail and Facebook. It uses a different approach to traditional ciphers, as it does not use a fixed secret key to encrypt a message that can be used by the recipient to read the message. Vanish uses a unique key that is distributed in parts over a public peer-to-peer network. It is possible to give a lifespan to the key, so that at a given moment a part of the key will destroy itself. At that moment there is no longer a complete key available, so that the message can no longer be read. For more information, we refer you to this page and can you possibly this paper read through. The developers have released the first version of Vanish with 0.1 as the version number via this page can be brought in.
