Spread the love

Version 2.0.1.8 of Universal USB Installer has been released. With this Windows program the installation ISOs of a large number of Linux distributions can be placed on a USB stick. This means they no longer need to be burned onto a CD or DVD first; the installation can be performed from the self-booting USB stick. Support is provided for a wide range of distributions, from the best known to some of the very obscure. Part of the USB stick can also be used as persistent storage can be set up in which changes and personal files can be stored, which is normally not possible with a live CD. Since version 2.0.1.6, the following changes and improvements have been made:

  • Iterate through all logical drives and combine accumulated drive letters with their corresponding disk number.
  • Fixed more bugs in the handling of menu selections.
  • Changed physical disk and partition/volume detection methods.
  • All fixed and removable drives with the exception of those with a Windows\system32 directory are currently displayed by default.
  • Added redetect disks – refresh drives option.

Changes in version 2.0.1.7:

  • Updated to 1.0.95 bootloader.
  • Adjusted the ISO file masking for Windows X-Lite.
  • Fixed bugs in how menu selections and message box returns are handled.
