Download Ubuntu Linux 6.06 beta

Less than three weeks after the release of Ubuntu Linux 6.06 alpha, the developers of Ubuntu today released the first beta of the 6.06 version made available for the general public. The beta version is from this page downloadable as an installation and live CD for x86, AMD64 and PPC systems. Via the same page you can download torrent files that can be loaded into your favorite BitTorrent client so that the necessary files can be downloaded via peer-2-peer. If you are already running an earlier version of Ubuntu Linux, you can upgrade the current version using the bootable installation disc. The Ubuntu installer has two different installation procedures. The ‘text-mode install cd’ is the advanced procedure intended for system administrators who want to equip a large number of the same computers with Ubuntu Linux. The second, also new, installer has been given the name ‘desktop CD’ and is the replacement for the live CD. With the desktop CD, Ubuntu can be started without making any changes to the system and then tested and checked to your heart’s content. It is also possible to install Ubuntu Linux on the system from the desktop CD. Ubuntu Linux 6.06 beta comes with a large number of improvements compared to the previous version, which you can read exactly in this document.
