Christian Ghisler just released the fourth public beta release of Total Commander 6.54 in his own forum. This file manager is for many an indispensable tool under Windows because of its ease of use, clarity and versatility. Total Commander has various file manipulation options, a built-in ftp client, a multi rename tool, support for various compression formats and the functionality can be further extended with scripts and plugins. In the fourth beta release, no new features have been added, but a number of bugs have been fixed. The changelog looks like this:

Bug fixes in Total Commander 6.54 public beta 4:

  • Fixed: Search for name without wildcards surrounded by double quotes (eg “John Doe”) found nothing.
  • Fixed: Try to keep focus after copy progress dialog closes when using WindowBlinds with “glass skin” effect.
  • Fixed: Install of new plugins – existing plugin subdir not found when using environment variables in plugin base dir
  • Fixed: Ctrl+C in lister sometimes copied one character too much when selecting from the beginning of the file
  • Fixed: Auto-enable folder thumbnails also on Windows XP Service Pack 1 if WMF patch has been installed
