Software Update: Sync2iPod 0.2.1

Spread the love

A new project called Sync2iPod has appeared on Source Forge. With this program it is possible to synchronize the Outlook address book and calendar with the iPod. It is still in an early stage and currently only works with Outlook 2003, but the source code can be easily adapted, according to the maker, so that it also works with Outlook XP. Work is also underway on a plugin that will allow synchronization of music from iPod to PC via Windows Media Player 10:

Sync2iPod is an iPod synchronization tool that is built around a plugin architecture. I got the idea from using Micosoft ActiveSync everyday (hopefully it will be gain the same notorious reputation as ActiveStink). New synchronization providers can easily be plugged into the application (well that’s the goal, the code still has a bit of work to go!). Future plugins I have started working on include a bridge to Windows Media Player 10 so all you WMP lovers will be abe to sync to your iPod and a one way sync provider (iPod->PC) for all those people with multiple PC’s to mirror your iPod song collection to PCs without iTunes installed. To run the release you will need:

  • .NET Framework 1.1 Runtime
  • For the default synchronization providers you will need the Outlook 2003 PIAs. These can be installed from your office setup from Microsoft Outlook->.NET Programmability Support.
  • Microsoft Outlook 2003
