Software Update: Skype 1.2.0.11

Spread the love

A new version of the software of the same name can be downloaded from the Skype site for the Linux platform. The new-fangled version has been given version number 1.2.0.11 and is available from this page downloadable for Suse 9, Fedora Core 3 and Debian, among others. Skype allows you to call other users via Voice-over-IP, as it were. This does not require a subscription, just bandwidth to send the voice data back and forth. It is also possible to take out a subscription that allows calls to fixed and mobile telephone numbers and to numbers abroad. The changelog of this release shows the following changes:

feature:

  • “Find dialog” in chat

change:

  • no Start tab anymore -> new event panel
  • new voicemail icons in call list
  • echo123 is always seen as online user

bug fix:

  • Can’t open URL in multichat window
  • sending message to someone who is using older version of skype – cosmetic
  • Missing Services section
  • Renaming groups – duplicated counter
  • file transfer: send-file — write permission
  • file transfer: send-file — inexact error dialog
  • Changing password — it was possible to enter illegal characters
  • inexact information dialog
  • Inexact dialog content when calling to paid number
  • Authorization request should contain Call button
  • incorrect order of buttons, if you send or receive a file
  • Can’t interrupt third party in conference call
  • skype’s network traffic is stopped, if presence is set to offline
  • proper header selections in multichat window
  • upsell msgs to VM/SI for non-subscribers
  • profile image file in /tmp not checked properly (thanks to Giovanni Delvecchio for reporting)

known issue:

  • some crash scenarios exist with Find in the Chat window — eg if an empty string is used, an emoticon is part of the string, or a formattted phone number is part of the string (like +44201234567)
  • a crash may occur if the chat window is closed while it is loading the history
  • the main window redrawing may be poor in some cases, the workaround is to disable the watermark
