Software Update: RealVNC 4.1.1

The developers have recently released a new version of RealVNC, this time with the version number 4.1.1 with a number of important improvements. The program can be used to remotely control another computer. This can happen cross-platform, for example from Windows to Linux and vice versa. You take over the desktop of the other computer so that it looks like you are physically behind it. The release notes look like this:

General Features and Improvements from VNC 4.1:

  • Western-European accented characters are now supported in clipboard data, using ISO Latin 1.

VNC for Windows Changes:

  • FIXED: Viewer window placement and multi-monitor handling issues.
  • FIXED: Server tray icon tooltip text missing or out of date.
  • FIXED: Server failing to respect the Disable local inputs setting.
  • FIXED: Server always enabling Active Desktop on disconnect.
  • FIXED: Installer requiring reboot when replacing an active installation.

VNC for Unix Changes:

  • Improved the vncviewer, vncconfig and x0vncserver event loops.
  • Enabled the XInputExtension in Xvnc by default.
  • FIXED: vnc.so module for XFree86 failing to load due to missing dependencies.
