pixie is an open-source application for creating photorealistic renders. The development team hopes that Pixie can eventually be used in graphics studies and by people who can’t afford commercial render packages. Support for programmable shading, motion blur, depth of field, ray tracing, scan-line rendering, area-light sources and occlusion culling is included. Version 1.3.11 was recently released and has the following improvements:

Fixed in 1.3.11:

  • framebuffer (X11) display on doesn’t quit on a keypress.
  • Remote X11 may display incorrectly
  • Compiler may not determine correct function call for noise etc.
  • gather does a full hemisphere gather without reguard for coneangle
  • Pixie does not compile on Mac-OSX
