Version 2.2 of Peazip has been released today. Peazip is an archiving program available under an open source license, which tries to distinguish itself from the competition by specializing in security. Encrypting data is therefore the spearhead of its own pea format. The program can create 7z, bz2, gz, paq/lpaq, pea, quad, tar, upx and zip files and extract various file formats including ace, arj, cab, deb, iso, lha , rar and rpm. The main change in this release is support for utf-8, which among other things allows for a multilingual user interface and the display of unicode characters. Changes in version 2.2:

  • Added “Bookmarks” in “File” menu and file/archive browser (in the latter, as grid list wich can be edited and commented)
  • Added full support for BALZ format (now a total of 72 file extensions are supported)
  • Migrated to Lazarus 0.9.25 to introduce UTF-8 support
    • GUI can now accept utf8characters, but due to some ansi-only FPC functions characters still can be handled only if featured in the host system’s codepage
    • Configuration files, job definitions, job logs and layout files saved as UTF-8 text (older ANSI layout files can still be used)
    • Implemented localization mechanism
      • Available localizations: English, Italian
  • New NuoveXT theme inspired by NuoveXT icon set
  • Supports custom path for data which requires read/write operations (rnd, conf.txt and bookmarks.txt files), specified in res/altconf.txt file
  • Updated support: UPX 3.03, p7z 4.48 (Linux)
  • Updated PeaLauncher, now the default GUI mode is responsive and shows full job log
  • Updated WE crypto libs in use:
    • aes_2008-01-12.zip
    • crc_hash_2008-07-17.zip
    • fca_2007-07-17.zip
    • util_2008-06-27.zip
  • Various fixes and improvements:
    • Added “copy to” and “move to” menu entries
    • Fixed issue with non solid mode for 7z format
    • Fixed directory names (don’t cut “extension”) in add2* functions
    • Fixed path names in file menu
    • Improved home and desktop identification for Linux
    • Improved desktop identification for some Windows localizations
    • “Open with PeaZip” menu entries now send the object, file or folder, to be opened for browsing (asking for confirmation if filetype is supported as custom format)
    • New “Information” function for folders and files (non-archives and archive types not supporting information operation from backend binary)
    • Path field is now editable (file/archive browser)
