Software Update: Paint.NET 2.1 RC 2

The developers behind Paint.NET had hoped that a second release candidate would not be necessary, but a number of critical bugs have ensured that version 2.1 RC 2 is available for download today of this replacement for the MS Paint included with Windows. Paint.NET is being developed by Washington State University in collaboration with Microsoft. The software only works under Windows XP, 2000 or 2003 and of course the .NET Framework will have to be installed. In this release a problem with drag&drop has been fixed, and some changes have been made to the window from which files can be opened and written. The full changelog looks like this:

  • Fixed a crash bug related to saving JPEG images
  • Tweaked Open and Save dialogs to remember the last directory they were browsing
  • Open and Save dialogs now default to “Thumbnail” view
  • Fixed drag ‘n drop bug that prevented importing images from a CD
  • Updated documentation (help file)
