Software Update: NTRegOpt 1.1e

Spread the love

Beasley drew our attention to a freeware tool called NTRegOpt. There are many programs available for cleaning the Windows registry, but these don’t do more than just remove redundant and wrong keys. This creates “empty holes” in the registry, but it doesn’t shrink it. NTRegOpt is able to rebuild the registry making it smaller and therefore faster to access. The program can handle Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0, 2000, XP and 2003 registries, but not Windows 9x or Me. The release notes show what has changed since the first release:

v1.1e:

  • Optimization results: use thousand separator

v1.1d:

  • Optimized error handling

v1.1c:

  • Fixed problems with dynamic disks
  • Re-added support for Windows NT 3.51 (got lost with v1.1)

v1.1b:

  • NTREGOPT is now compatible with Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • Fixed a problem where the registry hives could not be optimized on some systems
