Software Update: Max 0.3

Spread the love

Max is a new application for the Mac OS X platform and is capable of converting a music CD into audio files in MP3, FLAC or Ogg Vorbis format. It uses, among other things, the encoder LAME for compressing the music and can fill in the artist and titles for you with the help of FreeDB. The developer has released version 0.3 with the following changes:

New features:

  • Ripper changed to cdparanoia
  • Upgraded to LAME 3.97b2
  • FLAC output using libFLAC
  • Ogg Vorbis output using libVorbis
  • Ability to automatically encode discs when inserted
  • Improved user interface
  • Rewritten preference interface
  • Expanded online help
  • Activity logging
  • custom icons
  • Rewritten for NSDocument architecture

bug fixes:

  • File extensions now added to custom-named output

Known issue:

  • iTunes still displays numbers instead of strings for genres (due to mishandling of ID3v2.4 tags)
