Software Update: Linux Kernel 2.6.0

Spread the love

On kernel.org we read that the final version of the 2.6.0 kernel is available. At first glance, this version seems to be mainly aimed at the server market. Things like full 64-bit support for Opterons, full support for G5 PowerMacs, and improvements in virtual memory management support this notion.

However, there are also interesting innovations for the home user. In addition, we find improved support for devices that are connected using USB and FireWire. Furthermore, there are changes that should improve the i/o performance and the support for WiFi equipment has been expanded. An overview of the changes made from version 2.6.0-test11 to 2.6.0 can be found here read, and of course you can find more information about this update in this frontpage article.
