Spread the love

Even now that the long-awaited release of version 2.4.21 of the Linux kernels has just taken place, things are not standing still on the Linux front. In addition to the stable 2.4.x series, there is another version of the kernel that is under development: 2.5.x. The big difference between the two versions is that the 2.4 series has been officially declared stable, so the chance of serious bugs is quite small. The 2.5 series is still getting new features and has not been declared stable, so that occasionally serious errors can still occur. The use of a 2.5 kernel is not recommended in environments that need to be stable, but if you are eagerly waiting for the new features or just want the latest of the latest, this kernel series is fine.

People running a 2.5 kernel on their system can get their teeth back on a new version, numbered 2.5.72. As usual the changelog is way too long to put here, whoever wants can here rightly so.
