Software Update: Linux Kernel 2.5.62

Spread the love

Linus Torvalds has released another new Linux development kernel, this time with the version number 2.5.62† It already looks like the release of a stable kernel is getting closer. It changelog can be viewed here and the release notes look like this:

Hmm.. Mostly lots of small updates, although the merge with Andrew included the RCU dcache patches from IBM that he has carried along for a while (ie fairly fundamnetal, but also very well tested).

ARM, PPC, PPC64, alpha, kbuild.

Oh, and as a sign that 2.6.x really _is_ approaching, people have started sending me spelling fixes. Kernel coders are apparently all atrocious spellers, and for some reason the spelling police always comes out of the woodwork when stable releases get closer.

Linus[break]For the previous development kernel version 2.5.61 Alan Cox has a ac patch released, so please note that this patch was made for the previous kernel. He has this to say about it:[/break]Now 2.5.x finally seems to want to play for the most part I’ve been clearing down the queue and fixing the stuff I hit trying to build things. There isn’t any IDE stuff merged yet, this is very much clearing the decks beforehand.
