JavaRa is a program to clean up old versions of Java and the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Oracle, after acquiring Sun publisher of Java, regularly releases new versions of Java that add new features and fix bugs and security vulnerabilities. However, during the update, the old versions are not removed and over time these files can take up quite a lot of space. JavaRa not only removes old files, but also cleans the registry. In addition, the program can check whether the latest version of JRE is on the computer.

JavaRa was previously published by RaProducts, but earlier this year it made familiar transfer this to The Web Atom, which we know here in the Meuktracker from CCEnhancer. The Web Atom, in turn, recently changed its name to Singular Labs. JavaRa 2.0 has been rebuilt from the ground up and includes a new user interface and a new way of solving Java problems. An early development version has now been released and its release notes look like this:

JavaRa 2.0 is now available for testing purposes. Do not suggest this version to troubleshoot JRE related issues until a stable build is available. JavaRa makes significant changes to your registry and filesystem, so please make sure you backup valuable data before testing.

Improvements from 1.16?

The most significant change is the overhauled user interface, with a new “walk-through” approach to troubleshooting JRE issues.

Current regressions from 1.16

• The new translations are not yet completed. If you would like to contribute a translation, please get in touch.
• Cleaning of JRE logs is not yet available from the “Additional Tools” menu.
• Command line switches are currently disabled.
• Windows XP users may require .NET 2.0 or newer installed.
• Debugging logs are not available.

Additional work required before release

• “Automation” features, including cross-network execution.
• Support for running “repair scripts,” where JavaRa performs a series of user defined actions.
