Software Update: HostsMan 4.2

Spread the love

One way to keep malware and advertisements out is to block the computers that serve this content. This can be done by including the IP numbers of these machines in the host file and pointing them to localhost. Keeping this host file up-to-date is a time-consuming job, but HostsMan can help with that. This free program can provide up-to-date lists of well-known websites such as Msmvps.com fetch and combine with the already present host file. Furthermore, it can check the host file for wrong, duplicate or malicious lines, there is a built-in editor and the dns cache can be emptied. Version 4.2 of HostsMan has been released and the following changes have been made:

Added:

  • ‘Run as Administrator’ button to main window when running in user mode;
  • Option to hide “Hosts Updater” panel in main window (aka compact mode);
  • Configurable global hotkeys (disabled by default);

Changed:

  • Non-admin accounts are now allowed to view updater source properties;
  • Moved “DNS Client Service” panel from main window to its own dialog window;
  • Other minor UI tweaks;

Fixed:

  • Local update sources are flagged as new by the updater even when they are not;
  • Custom exception handler does not work;
  • Minor bugs.
