Software Update: Futuremark SPMarkJava 2006

Futuremark has released a new benchmark for mobile phones. SPMarkJava06 tests the mobile’s performance by running various Java applications. In this way, the mobile is subject to 2d and 3d games, video playback, image processing and battery life, among others. A score is calculated based on the performance of the benchmarks. This score can then be sent to the Online ResultBrowser, where the score can be viewed in detail by everyone. The folks at Futuremark have three different versions to offer, with the Professional Edition costing a paltry $20,000. Fortunately, the Advanced edition is a lot cheaper; it is available for 3 dollars.
