Software Update: FileZilla 3.10.3 Beta 1

Spread the love

FileZilla has released a new version of its eponymous open source FTP client, this time in beta. FileZilla is small, simple and yet complete. The program is popular due to its low system resource load. However, a common complaint is that passwords are stored unencrypted on the computer. FileZilla is available for Windows, Linux, and OS X, and can be downloaded from this page be downloaded in different versions.

Be careful of other sources as there are modified versions floating around the internet that contain malware† Also, be careful with the default ‘recommended’ download, as that is a Download Manager that offers some optional offerings before getting the real installer. On the more download optionspage does contain clean installation files and this beta is also clean. Despite the small jump in version number, there is an important change in this release, namely the introduction of a 64bit version for Windows.

New features:

  • FileZilla is now also available as 64bit Windows program. Users of 32bit FileZilla on 64bit Windows will get automatically migrated using the auto-updater
  • Added option to enable SFTP compression
