Software Update: Ethereal 0.9.13

Anyone who goes deeper into maintaining a network structure or trying to solve communication problems on a network often uses a so-called packet sniffer. The program Ethereal is able to analyze the data that is sent over the network in different network protocols, so that you can monitor the network traffic as a whole. You can also use already saved data traffic as input for the program. Version 0.9.13 was recently released and has the following release notes:

Ethereal 0.9.13 has been released.

This release fixes a large number of security issues discovered by Timo Sirainen and others. see for more details.

New and updated features:

  • Ethereal now supports a system-wide color filter file.
  • Support for the GNU ADNS library has been added. ADNS allows asynchronous DNS lookups.
  • “Decode As…” functionality has been added to Tethereal via the “-d” flag.
  • The HTTP, FTP, POP, SMTP, IMAP, and ACAP requests and responses are now shown in the protocol tree.
