Software Update: Emsisoft Anti-Malware 8.1.0.40

Emsisoft has released version 8.1.0.40 of Anti-Malware. The name of this program doesn’t quite cover it, because it not only offers protection against malware, it is also a full-fledged antivirus product. That also explains the heavy download of 213MB. A license for Anti-Malware costs 40 euros and for a tenner more you get the firewall Online Armor. Below are the major improvements made in this release.

Improvements:

• Added detection of malicious Chrome and Firefox extensions.
• Added support for Firefox and Chrome developer versions.
• Added detection of potentially unwanted system settings.
• Infection categories adjusted.
• Internal optimizations to reduce the number of malware definitions and memory usage required.
• Outlook plugin removed because it has become redundant.
• Removed cookie scan because it has become redundant.
• Improved error reporting.
• Duplicate setup wizard has been fixed.
• Fixed a bug with filenames in email notifications.
• Fixed some possible memory corruptions and memory leaks.
• Fixed a problem with certain network shares.
• Fixed an issue where files were sometimes detected as folders and folder as files.
