Software Update: Classic Shell 3.9.5 Beta

Spread the love

Not long ago the fifth beta release of Classic Shell 4.0 came out with version number 3.9.5; version 3.9.4 was never officially released. This open source program can make changes to the appearance of Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, the start button, and the start menu in Windows 7 and 8. In Windows 8, it can add a start button and start menu, and cause Windows to boot directly to the desktop environment, instead of of the Metro interface. In version 4.0, support for Windows Vista has been discontinued and the Windows 7 skin for Windows 8 has been greatly improved. The changelog for this release looks like this:

Version 3.9.5 beta

  • Windows 8.1 RTM is officially supported
  • Added animated menu transitions for the Windows 7 style
  • Added status bar for Explorer in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 to show the total size of the selected files and the free disk space
  • Improved hovering functionality for the start button
  • New feature allows administrators to modify the default settings without locking them
  • Fixed many bugs reported during the beta
