Software update: aMule 2.1.0

The eDonkey network can be used, among other things, to exchange files. In addition to the original client, eDonkey2000, an open source client has also been developed with the catchy name eMule. The latter is only available for the Windows platform, which is why LMule was started for the Linux platform at the time. However, the code was not as portable as hoped, so xMule was developed with support for FreeBSD, Linux, MacOS X, Solaris, and Windows. Due to some disagreements within the xMule development team, a number of developers have left and started developing aMule.

Now that we have these historical facts back in our memory, we can continue with the message that was released a few days ago version 2.1.0 with the extra catchy title “I just teased you with this release till 2006”. The developers have been busy and support has been added for the Kademlia network. In addition, many other points have been addressed in the list of changes can be read back. The announcement looks like this:

As per usual, we are a wee bit late, but hopefully it’ll have been worth the wait. The new release, aMule v2.1.0, the “I just teased you with this release till 2006” version. This release is dedicated to our great tester Citroklar, for reasons known to him. Among other things, this release add the frequently requested support for the Kademlia network, a php enabled web server and many, many other enhancements. For the full changelog, click here.

Please note that this version of aMule requires wxWidgets v2.6.0 or newer, and will neither compile nor function with earlier version of wxWidgets. Complaints about this can be forwarded to me, and will be promptly ignored.
