Download AbiWord 2.6.2

The developers have released a new version of the open source word processor. Abiword 2.6.2 can via this page for Linux and Windows can be downloaded. In version 2.6.2, some bug fixes have been implemented and support for the ‘collaboration plugin’ for Windows has been introduced, which makes it possible to work on one document with several people.

Abiword is a word processor that can be run on a large number of operating systems. The program is able to open and edit a variety of document formats, including Microsoft Word, Openoffice.org, Wordperfect, and regular RTF documents. Furthermore, the functionality of Abiword can be extended by means of plugins. The Abiword 2.6.2 release notes are as follows:

This release includes the following changes (and more!):

• We’ve enabled the experimental collaboration plugin on the Windows platform. This plugin allows allowing users to collaboratively work on the same document in real-time. The user interface is still a bit rough around the edges, but this will be improved upon in future AbiWord releases.
• Make our presentation plugin work.
• Fix a bunch of small bugs in our XSL-FO, Applix, LaTeX, WML and HTML import/export filters.
