Software update: µTorrent 2.0 build 16394 beta

A new development version of µTorrent version 2.0 was released on Friday. µTorrent is a very complete BitTorrent client that uses very little memory and processor, and the size of the program itself is minimal. The most important improvement in version 2.0 is the support for uTP: a way of data transport where high reliability and minimal latencies are the spearheads. Below are the changes and improvements made in this release:

New features:

  • Stop setup guide tests without exiting dialog
  • Added ability to re-run setup tests

Changes:

  • Optimization added to speed up torrent creation
  • Conservative network locking in installer
  • Updated bandwidth presets in Setup guide

Fixed:

  • Bugs where have messages would not be remebered for magnet link downloads
  • Buffer overrun vulnerability
  • Weird crash in low level network read and write
  • Fixed crash in udp tracker connection with unresponsive DNS
  • Improved out-of-memory error handling in disk thread
  • Installer crash after download
  • Crash when peers disconnect from a magnet-link torrent right as we received the metadata
  • Fixes bug where magnet links wouldn’t work if PEX was disabled
  • Fix crash when using magnet links and a peer is failing at a particular point
  • Fixed negative allocation in RequestChunks() for web seeds
  • Fix startup race condition between network and disk I/O thread
