Business chat service Slack will be releasing a new desktop interface design in the coming weeks. For example, there will be a button to start writing a message, after which users only have to indicate where they post it later.

The sidebar will also be redesigned with topics that users can group themselves, Slack said. This allows users to sort DM conversations with colleagues by department, for example. Users can also list channels and group DMs. That is not possible now. The feature will only be in the paid version of Slack.

It is also possible to collapse entire parts to keep an overview. That is also not possible now. There will also be a button with a lightning icon in the text field for quick functions, such as creating polls.

The changes to the interface come to new users first and only later to existing users. That will happen in the coming weeks, the company said. Slack is used by many companies for mutual communication.
