SEGA announces the Mega Drive Mini 2. The new retro console will be released in Japan in October and will contain more than 50 games, including Mega-CD titles. It is not known whether the console will also be available outside Japan.

The Mega Drive Mini 2 game library consists of Mega Drive and Mega-CD games, including arcade ports and “mysterious new works,” said VGC. SEGA announces that at least these titles are coming to the Mega Drive Mini 2: Silpheed, Shining Force CD, Sonic CD, Mansion of Hidden Souls, Popful Mail, Virtua Racing, Bonanza Bros, Shining in the Darkness, Thunder Force IV, Magical Taruruto and Fantasy Zone. The latter has never appeared on the Mega Drive Mini before. It is a new Mega Drive port based on the Super Fantasy Zone sequel.

The first Mega Drive Mini was released in 2019, containing 42 games, including previously unreleased ports of Darius and Tetris. From October 27, the Mega Drive Mini 2 will be available in Japan for 9980 yen, which is equivalent to 71 euros. It is not clear whether the retro console will also be released in Europe.

Mega-CD is an extension of the Mega Drive, SEGA’s 16-bit console. With the expansion it became possible to play CDs with music, but also Mega-CD games appeared with better graphics and better sound. Mega-CD was released in Europe in 1993, three years after the European release of the Mega Drive.
