School portal Eduroute resets passwords after possible hack

Malicious persons may have obtained name and address details of pupils in secondary education and secondary vocational education via the Eduroute school portal. It is unknown at this time whether any data was stolen.

The Eduroute Foundation reports this on its site. All those involved are now also informed. Eduroute services are used by students to access digital teaching materials. Suppliers of learning materials use Eduroute’s services to log in to their online teaching materials.

Several suppliers of learning resources, such as Van Dijk and Iddink, have today sent emails directly to students informing them that the password of the learning environment has been disabled. When a student tries to log in, they will be prompted to create a new password.

The fact that the students are informed directly has to do with the holiday period and it was decided after consultation between Eduroute with a few still available school boards and the Secondary Education Council. Eduroute informs the schools themselves about this in an e-mail.

It is not yet known how and whether the hack could have taken place and who is responsible for it. The Eduroute Foundation has set up a new password policy that also applies to its business customers. In the e-mail to students, Eduroute also advises to change passwords from other sites, if people use the same password.
