Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones no longer receive regular updates. In the past year, the phones were updated every quarter, from now on they will only receive security updates in exceptional cases. The phones were introduced in 2018.

on Samsung’s smartphone update overview can be seen that the Galaxy S9 phones are no longer mentioned, notes Droidlife on. Previously, the phones were still mentioned among the devices that receive security updates every quarter.

The S9 smartphones recently received the March security update; this appears to be the last regular security update for the phones. The expiry of the regular security updates does not mean that the phones will no longer receive updates at all. For example, the Galaxy S8 phones received another security update at the end of 2021, while the phones were removed from the quarterly update list in May last year.

Another change to the update overview is that the Galaxy S10 phones no longer receive an update every month, but every quarter. Samsung had the policy to provide smartphones with updates for at least three years. In the case of top models, this turned out to be four years more often in practice. Earlier this year, the company announced that it was expanding this policy, providing certain smartphones with five years of security updates and four Android upgrades.
