Samsung claims to provide two devices with 4.3Gbit/s internet via 5G

Samsung claims that it has provided two devices with a connection with a downlink of 4.3Gbit/s with its 5G box. That happened via 5g on mmWave frequencies. According to the manufacturer, this is the first time that such a thing is possible.

Samsung provided both devices with a 4.3Gbit/s downlink in a lab test setup. Under controlled conditions, much higher speeds are always possible than will later prove possible in practice.

The manufacturer used its 5G New Radio Access Unit, announced last year, a transmission tower made for mmWave-5g. For example, the Access Unit is for attachment to lampposts. Due to the high bandwidth in the high frequency bands of mmWave-5g, much higher speeds are possible than at the lower frequencies.

In some countries, providers already have spots with 5g on mmWave frequencies. These include Samsung’s home country of South Korea and the United States, where Samsung has a potentially large market for its network equipment; Huawei is not allowed to supply network equipment there. Samsung is a small player in this area; next to Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia are major players in that market.
