The ZTE Axon 20 5G would be the first smartphone with a front camera behind the screen. The technology would come from the Chinese Visionox. Other manufacturers have already shown prototypes of the technology.

ZTE CEO Ni Fei said on Weibo that the manufacturer will be the first to release a smartphone with a front camera behind the screen. It would be a phone with the type number A2121, GizmoChina reports. There are no pictures or specs of the phone.

The Chinese manufacturer would use technology from the Chinese Visionox. That company took an OLED screen with a front camera behind the pixels into mass production in June.

In recent years there has been attention for the technology and Oppo, among others, has shown it as a prototype. With the bezels that have become smaller, the front camera first disappeared in a notch. After that, some smartphones appeared with the front camera in a pop-up module, but the most common method now is to put the front camera in a hole in the screen.
