Rumor: Steam Controller will be released in October or November

The Steam Controller will be released in October or November. That says a source from the game industry at game fair Pax East to PC Gamer. Additionally, Steam Machines should be out by the end of the year and there are reportedly 500 games that support SteamOS by then.

The PC Gamer source remains anonymous, but has the trust of the PC game medium. The Steam Controller was initially supposed to have a touchscreen in the middle, but Valve later waived that. The current design still retains the dual touchpads, where other controllers use sticks, but the touchscreen has been replaced by regular buttons.

Valve’s Steam Controller is the latest part of the American company’s plan to bring Steam Machines to market. Steam Machines are compact PCs that run on Valve’s proprietary SteamOS operating system and can be connected to televisions. SteamOS is Linux-based and always runs in the so-called Big Picture Mode, which is specifically intended for use with TVs and controllers. With this, Valve wants to bring the convenience that consoles offer to Steam. Several manufacturers, including Alienware, Falcon Northwest, Gigabyte, and Zotac, will launch Steam Machines. Valve also comes with its own design of the Steam console. Currently, 384 Steam games support SteamOS.
