Samsung would be about to take over the SmartThings company. This company focuses on the home automation market. Samsung would also like to get a better grip on the fast-growing home automation market with the acquisition.

It is not yet clear whether the takeover is actually a fact. According to TechCrunch, a source states that the case is complete and that Samsung has put about 200 million dollars, about 147 million euros, on the table. Another source tells the same site that the negotiations are not yet fully completed. Neither company wants to comment on the rumours.

SmartThings is a start-up that focuses on home automation products. For example, the company has developed motion sensors and cameras that can be set and read remotely via a smartphone or tablet. Electronic locks and lighting can also be automated using SmartThings hardware.

Samsung seems to want to secure its position in the home automation market with the acquisition. Not only has Google become more active with the acquisition of Nest, companies such as Apple and Amazon are also taking an increasing interest in what they see as a lucrative growth market.
