Rumor: Lenovo, Huawei and Foxconn want to buy Fujitsu phone branch

Lenovo, Huawei and Foxconn, among others, would be interested in buying the telephone branch of the Japanese company Fujitsu. Fujitsu has been making phones for years, but sales are said to have more than halved in recent years.

The first bidding round could start in September and Fujitsu would like to have converted hundreds of millions of euros for the division, writes the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei. In addition to Lenovo, Huawei and Foxconn, various investment companies would also be interested, according to the business newspaper.

Fujitsu split off the telephone branch a year and a half ago, which means it can now sell that division separately. The manufacturer only supplies phones in the home country of Japan. This year, the company would supply around 3.1 million smartphones, making the market share negligibly small.

The Japanese company has not yet commented on the rumor, as have Lenovo, Foxconn and Huawei. Lenovo and Foxconn have previously made acquisitions in the telephone industry. Lenovo took over the American Motorola from Google a few years ago, while Foxconn together with the Finnish HMD Global bought Nokia’s mobile division from Microsoft.
